‘O Ka Mauli Ka Mea E Ola Ai Känaka” Convention 2013

CONVENTION INFORMATION FOR 2013 PLANNING: Convention dates are November 10 through 17 on Moku o Manokalanipo (Kaua`i) at the Kaua`i Marriott Resort on Kalapaki Beach, chair Healani Furumoto.

A logo will be presented and explained and hopefully accepted and approved by the BOD today so Moku o Manokalanipo can move forward with convention planning.

The moku request to pay the AHCC the fee of $3500 to host convention and if approved would like to receive the MOU today so they can move on with planning. They are working towards sending out convention forms and getting the booklet rolling as early as April, they ask that WE meet the deadlines of September 30, little over eight (8) months from today.
Council will adhere to the deadline date and will not entertain extensions.
Kauai is using the D.C. booklet as an example for getting estimates from their printer for the various size ads and also for printing of the booklet. Council asks that those with kuleana to get speakers, arrange workshops, secure letters from dignitaries and clubs getting their club information for the booklet start because the council is going to adhere to the deadline date of September 30 set by the printer. Mahalo to the council for jumping right in and running with your kuleana, with so much enthusiasm and commitment.

A request from the host council is that the agenda for convention be available by the September deadline so people know whats happening and can decide when they should make air and room reservations in order to participate in the pre activities planned by the moku as the moku would like convention attendees to participate in their pre activities.

GROUP ROOM RATES: $179 single and double occupancy plus applicable state and local taxes (currently 13.4166%) in effect at the time of check-in. The rate is available to event attendees for three days before and after the official program dates on a space-and rate-available basis. Maximum room occupancy is four (4) persons. Charges for the third and fourth person are $40 per person per night.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW: A credit card is required to hold a reservation. If you use a debit / credit card to check in, a hold may be placed on your account for the full anticipated amount to be owed to the hotel, including estimated incidentals, through your date of check-out and such hold may not be released for 72 hours from the date of check-out or longer at the discretion of your card issuer.

SPECIAL CONCESSIONS: Upon meeting our contracted Room Night of (400) and Food and Beverage Minimum of $20,000 our meeting space will be complimentary, resort fee and package handling fees will be waived, self parking is free and there is a complimentary Resort Shuttle to and from the Lihue Airport

You can book your hotel room reservations NOW by calling 1.800.220.2925 the group RATE is $179. Tell them you are booking under the block for Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs and convention dates are November 10 through 14. The three (3) day pre/post convention dates is based on availability. By booking your reservations by the above method will ensure that you get the AHCC’s special block rate and that AHCC gets credit for your booking. THE CUTOFF DATE FOR RESERVATIONS IS OCTOBER 18, OR UNTIL BLOCK SELLS OUT.

March Madness

The March events celebrate the birthday of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana`ole. The people of the State of Hawai`i acknowledge his many contributions and has memorialized the Prince by naming schools, buildings, streets, and beaches after him, and designating March 26 as a state holiday honoring his birth.

Kapolei Prince Kūhiō Ho`olaule`a
Location: Prince Kūhiō Community Center

Celebrating its1st year, the Kapolei Prince Kūhiō Ho`olaule`a will kick off with an imu workshop starting Friday night at the Prince Kūhiō Community Center (Hawaii Maoli). Saturday will feature local entertainment, lots of food and vendors’ booth, and Hawaiian craft demonstrations including makahiki games. Onsite Health screening for diabetes and high blood pressure will be available. Open to the public 8:00 am – 3:00pm, Event parking at Department of Hawaiian Home lands Parking lot. Prince Kūhiō Commemorative Parade
Location: Saratoga/Kalākaua to Kapi`olani Park

The parade honors the accomplishments of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana`ole, founder of the Hawaiian Civic Club movement and proponent of the Hawaiian Homestead Act of 1920. A unique parade, it honors the dedication and commitment of a multitude of individuals and organizations who work year-round to practice and to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and who enhance the welfare and well-being of the Native Hawaiian community.

Prince Kūhiō Ho‘olaule‘a/Hō`ike`ike
Location: Kapi‘olani Park Bandstand
Date: March 23, 2013
Time: 10:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The Ho`olaule`a/Ho`ike`ike at Kapi`olani Park features native Hawaiian arts and crafts, exhibits by various Native Hawaiian organizations and businesses, and wonderful food. Hawaiian musicians fill the afternoon with entertainment.

At 7:30 a.m., the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs will conduct its lei draping ceremony at the Prince Kūhiō statue at Kūhiō Beach.

Prince Kūhiō Celebration

The Waimanalo Hawaiian Homes Association (WHHA) will be celebrating Prince J. Kūhiō Kalaniana`ole’s Birthday and the 75the Anniversary of the founding of their Association on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Ka Ho`oilina Nā Kūhiō Community Center. The event will include a formal program, arts and crafts tent, entertainment, historical previews, community organization displays and for sale, “Hawaiian Boxed Lunch” – $15.00 each.
