HuliaMahi

Aloha Members,

The Native Hawaiian Roll Commission wishes to invite the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, the O`ahu Council, and all all constituent clubs to participate in “HuliaMahi”, a celebration in honor of Queen Lili ‘uokalani and our enduring Native Hawaiian sovereignty, on January 20, 2013, Iolani Palace, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..

By way of background, on January 17, 1893, a Committee of Safety deposed the Hawaiian monarchy and proclaimed the establishment of a Provisional Government. Prior to that time, the Native Hawaiian people lived in a highly organized, self-sufficient, subsistence social system based on communal land tenure with a sophisticated language, culture, and religion.

On January 20, 2013, on the grounds of the ‘Iolani Palace, the Native Hawaiian Roll Commission wishes to remember our sovereign Queen Lili ‘uokalani and celebrate the richness of the Kingdom of Hawai ‘i and the Native Hawaiian culture. The event will feature speakers, Hawaiian musicians, Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners and artists, and organizational exhibits. Program highlights include the Ku ‘e Petition Play; a Tribute to Liliu ‘s musical compositions by Aaron Mahi; Lili ‘u Lei a ka Lahui Ho ‘ike (a tribute to Lili ‘uokalani by oli and mele hula by Kalani Akana and other kumu hula); an exhibit of the Photographic Images of the Kingdom of Hawai ‘i, 1883-1905 by Brother Gabriel Bertam Bellinghausen hosted by Chaminade University, entertainment on stage all day, and so much more.

We wish also to provide the Association, Council and/or Civic Clubs with an opportunity to showcase their programs by providing for your use free of charge, a tent, table and two chairs. If several groups wish this opportunity and additional accommodations are necessary, please inform Leimomi Khan, project manager, e-mail: mkhan@hawaiiantel.net. Please also RSVP to this invitation by completing and returning the attached document.
We know this is short notice, but are hopeful that your organizations will be able to participate. It promises to be a day full of enjoyable activities. Encourage your members to attend. Bring family and friends.

Mahalo for your consideration. Please call Leimomi Khan, project manager, at 372-0630 if you have any questions.
